The Friulian Dolomites National Park is located in a mountainous area above the high western Friuli plain and extends across 37,000 hectares. The main landscape features the western foothills of the Alps, surrounded by the Dolomite peaks and long, narrow valleys. The territory is particularly suitable for naturalistic excursions and trekking, guaranteed by an adequate network of paths and structures offering refreshment and assistance. The excursion service of the Park presents a calender of visits and guided routes every season, of different types and difficulties.
There are no inhabited towns or villages in the Park, which therefore has a level of wilderness which is rare in other areas of the Alps. In fact, it is easy to find roe deer, chamoix, red deer, ibex, marmots and eagles soaring through the sky.
The recent discovery of dynosaur footprints are also of great naturalistic importance and have increased the interest and fascination of the area in recent years.
